No grades, no judgment, and no certifications are required. This is a safe, supportive learning environment designed to help you better understand the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members during a medical emergency.

Participants will explore effective communication strategies, teamwork principles, ethical considerations, and best practices for interprofessional collaboration while experiencing scenarios led by AHA instructors who have many years of experience with code scenarios & teach Basic Life Support skills on a regular basis.

Join the Department of Bioethics & Health Humanities for a free one-hour mini seminar previewing BHH 6312: Science and Technology Studies, a Fall 2026 graduate course that examines how expertise earns authority, how societies decide what counts as risk, and how new technologies travel from the lab into everyday life.

This is a chance to examine the social life of science and the choices that shape how knowledge is trusted, used, challenged, and applied. We'll ask: How do researchers communicate with publics? How do policymakers and stakeholders interpret evidence? How do communities participate in research that affects them?

No background in the humanities is required. Bring your curiosity and an hour of your time.

The session is relevant for anyone whose work may move beyond the lab or clinic into public communication, policy, stakeholder engagement, or community-partnered research.

Innovating Models, Methodologies, Practices, and Research

Join us for UTMB’s inaugural half-day online summit, a focused virtual gathering dedicated to exploring critical aspects of assessment and evaluation within simulation-based education. This summit is designed to bring together healthcare educators, simulation specialists, researchers, and administrators to share cutting-edge models and methodologies, discuss best practices, and foster collaborative approaches to measuring the impact and effectiveness of simulation programs and centers. We will delve into both individual learner assessment and the crucial event, program and center-level evaluation, recognizing that comprehensive evaluation needs can extend beyond event-level outcomes to encompass the entire educational ecosystem.

This year’s theme, "Innovating Models, Methodologies, Practices, and Research," encourages a forward-thinking approach to how we assess and evaluate simulation-based learning.

Over the course of a half-day, participants will hear from insightful keynote speaker, Kim Leighton, PhD, RN, FAAN and participate in Meet the Pros discussions where experts will showcase innovative models, methodologies and skills to improve assessment and evaluation. Submission Categories:

1. Meet the Pros Presentation Proposals (5-minute presentation + 10-minute Q&A): This dynamic session format allows experts to share a specific skill, practical tip, or innovative approach in a concise 5-minute presentation. Following this, participants will have 10 minutes for direct questions and discussion. Attendees will rotate through different virtual breakout rooms, engaging with various "Pros" and their specialized topics.

Registration: Call the Labor & Delivery Registration desk at (409) 772- 2893 to check availability and schedule your tour.

Tours are scheduled every Sunday at noon & 4 p.m. in Galveston and will be between 30 and 45 minutes. Tours will cover:

Labor & Delivery on the 3rd and 4th floorsHigh Risk OB on the 10th floorMother Baby Unit on the 5th floorFour moms will be scheduled to take the tour, and each mom is allowed to bring one visitor with them for a max of eight people per tour.

Parking Information

Park in the Hospital Parking Garage* on University Boulevard between Texas Ave. and Darrell Royal Ave.

After parking, walk to and enter the front of the John Sealy Hospital. Once inside, follow the signs to John Sealy Hospital and take the elevators to the 3rd floor Labor & Delivery Registration Desk.

*Parking will be validated for individuals in this location. Bring your ticket into the hospital when you arrive.

If you are scheduled for, or are considering a total hip or knee joint surgery, join us for an informative educational session on preparing for surgery, expectations for the day of surgery, postoperative care and beyond.

The Joint Replacement Boot Camp is presented by Nurses, Rehabilitation Staff, and Social Workers. Join us to get a head start and be informed and prepared for your total hip or knee joint replacement surgery.
